Sheppy Jelly Adhesive CB4
Technical data
A natural adhesive of low odour, it has a wide
application in the book binding industry. Its special
chemical additives give it a longer open time than
normal, but nevertheless still retaining a good initial
tack. It can be applied by brush for spine work or by
machine (i.e. Balema, Swift or Nubal) for hand assembled
case making, and is eminently suitable for conservation
work.
This adhesive has additives to reduce cracking and to
give very good non-warp characteristics to the case.
For those requiring an adhesive for use on automatic
case making machinery we would recommend our Sheppy
Jelly adhesive C1 Flex.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
- Packed in 12.5 kilo corrugated cases with
Polythene liners, this adhesive should be turned out
of the box and cut into 1 - 2 kilo slabs, before
being placed in the adhesive trough.
- The adhesive should be heated to a temperature of
50°- 60° C (120°- 140° F) when it will liquefy
and be ready for use. In no circumstances must the
heat of the adhesive exceed 60° C (140° F)
otherwise one risks the adhesive becoming degraded.
- The adhesive may require dilution, dependent on
the work in hand, or to replace loss of water from
evaporation. In such cases, small quantities of warm
water may be added.
- In common with all natural adhesives, it is
recommended to clean the adhesive troughs regularly
to maintain the good quality and preserve the odour
and colour of the adhesive.
- This adhesive is completely non-foaming.
NB: Open time of this adhesive can be
lengthened by increasing the operating temperature to 60°
C and/or the addition of warm water.
Effect on the Environment
Being a natural colloid, this adhesive is water soluble
and any paper/board bonded with it
is completely recyclable. It is also biodegradable in
normal effluent processing plants and
will break down in the soil to become an organic plant
nutrient.
